Day 15 - Joseph
Joseph - a prayer
We see you, Joseph,
in countless nativity scenes
and in the stories of Jesus’ childhood,
but we never hear you speak.
Your voice,
unlike
the magnificat of Mary,
the encouraging words of Elizabeth
and the song of praise from Zechariah,
is unheard.
How many times have we silenced you?
How many times have we ignored your story?
How many times have we benefited from your care?
So,
For those whose voice has been silenced,
May God give…
For those who have become invisible to us,
May God give…
For those who help us to carry our burdens and our responsibilities,
May God give…
For the forgotten ones, for the invisible ones, for the displaced and vulnerable ones, for the exiled ones, for the tired ones, for the ones who coped and those who don’t, for the ones who are afraid, for the resilient ones, for the broken ones…
We pray God,
that You would give.
Give them courage, give them peace, give them light and warmth, give them love, give them shelter, give them a bit of recognition, give them a fair crack at the whip, give them a break…
God, in all that You give to the Josephs in our lives,
May they know Your presence with them
on journeys they choose or are forced to take.
